Newcastle disease breaks out in Israeli region

 
 

Israeli veterinary authorities have reported a new outbreak of Newcastle disease to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

 

The Israeli veterinary authority has sent an Immediate Notification dated June 15 to the OIE.

 

The report describes a new outbreak of Newcastle disease at Ashkelon in the southern region of Hadarom.

 

The outbreak started on June 14 at a farm with 150,000 broilers. There are eight poultry houses with four-week-old broilers on the site.

 

According to the report, the disease was detected in only two houses. Culling in all eight houses has begun and is expected to be finished within 24 hours. The last outbreak of Newcastle disease in Israel was in March 2009.
