Russia approves nine Brazilian meat exporters
Russia has approved nine meat processing plants from Santa Catarina, Brazil to export meat products to its territory, Brazilian minister of agriculture Reinhold Stephanes announced.
Stephanes also discussed with Russian authorities the expansion of pre-determined export quotas of Brazilian meats such as poultry and pork.
The intention, he said, is the expansion on the quotes be effective by 2010.
Brazil is part of the annual meat export quota to Russia that includes other countries.
In 2008, Brazil's share was fixed in 193,000 tonnes for pork meat and 68,000 tonnes for poultry.
In 2009, the amount fell to 177,500 tonnes for pork meat and 12,400 tonnes for poultry. Only the US and the EU have exclusive quotas established by Russia's government.
