Russia's pork production rise 17% in Q1
According to data from Russia's Ministry of Agriculture, Russia produced 649,000 tonnes of pork in the first three months of 2014, an increase of 17% compared to the same period of 2013.
Ministry of Agriculture said that the country's total production of pigs for slaughter in all categories of farms rose by 9.6% on-year, or 75,200 tonnes, to 855,600 tonnes, while pork production reached 649,000 tonnes, an increase of 17%, or 95,200 tonnes on-year.
In terms of pork output by region, Belgorod (170,400 tonnes), Kursk (45,000 tonnes), Tambov (34,600 tonnes), Rostov (29,300 tonnes), Lipetsk (27,000 tonnes) and the Republic of Tatarstan (27,300 tonnes) are the most productive regions in the country.
However, a number of regions reported a decrease in pork production, including Samara (-5,200 tonnes), Moscow Region (-2,000 tonnes), Perm Territory (-2,000 tonnes) and Voronezh (-1,400 tonnes).
There is also improvement on performance in the Russian pork industry. Data from the Ministry also showed that average daily gain in fattening and finishing pigs increased by 8.3% to 525g, while the number of piglets per 100 sows grew by 1.0% to 631 head.
