US foresees more beef exports to Japan

 

 

The US Meat Exporters Federation (USMEF) declared at its annual general meeting that US beef exports to Japan this year are expected to amount 140,000 tonnes (product volume basis), increasing 33% from last year (105,348 tonnes).

 

During the calendar year to April 2011, beef imports (amount of beef received and cleared at the Japan customs) from the US into Japan totalled 32,627 tonnes swt, up 54% from the same time last year and 38% of the pre-BSE 2003 volumes.

 

The US also expects a 20% growth in beef offal (variety meat) exports to Japan, to 23,000 tonnes in 2011.
