US holds DDGS feeding trials in Algeria

The US Grain Council (USGC) conducted distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS), feeding trials in Algeria and has scheduled a second trial to begin within a month.

The trial included 24 dairy cows being fed with DDGS at an inclusion rate of 32 percent, the USGC said.

Algerian farmers have given positive feedbacks on the product so far.

Kurt Shultz, USGC director for the Mediterranean and Africa, said the trial has passed the 60-day mark and is expected to finish at the end of this month.

Shultz added that milk quality parameters are being monitored.

The trial in Algeria is being conducted in cooperation with ECI Boudibab, a private grain importer that purchases approximately 500,000 tonnes of corn annually.

Abdella Ait Boulahsen, USGC consultant, was also recently in Algeria to organize DDGS poultry trials to be conducted in cooperation with ONAB, a state owned poultry company.

ONAB imports around 400,000 tonnes of corn per year, producing 1.5 million tonnes of compound feed.

By involving Algeria's two largest grain importers in the DDGS trials, the US hopes to gain national credibility for DDGS in the country.
