Richardson International Limited, Canada's No. 2 grain handler, said on Monday (Jun 14) it will spend CAD15 million (US$14.7 million) to expand grain handling and fertiliser storage facilities in Western Canada's crop-growing belt.
Starting this month and through January 2011, Richardson will expand grain storage capacity by a combined 42,000 tonnes in Saskatchewan at Marshall, Melfort and Whitewood, and build two new 6,000-tonne fertilizer storage facilities in Alberta, at Stirling and Dunmore.
The projects are part of a multi-year plan to expand Richardson's network of grain handling and crop input centres, said Darwin Sobkow, vice-president of agribusiness.
Richardson, a private Winnipeg-based company, competes in grain handling mainly against Viterra and Cargill.
