India's Mangalore Fisheries Harbour gets more aid

The department of ports has prepared a detailed project report of INR57 crore (US$12 million) to aid the third phase of expansion of Mangalore Fisheries Harbour.

"The project proposal will be sent to the Union government for approval soon," said the minister for ports, environment, inland water transport, ecology and environment and district in-charge, J Krishna Palemar.

Palemar said, "The expansion work of the harbour would get underway soon. The state government has provided INR20 lakh (US$43,000) for construction of new jetties at Bengre and the old port for the convenience of people using the ferry service."

"A sum of INR40 lakh (US$86,000) has been released to construct a ropeway from Bengre to the old port as an additional means of connectivity to the two places," Palemar said, adding that the remaining funds would be released in stages.
