Beijing's Live Hog Prices Hit New High in May

From the beginning of 2004 till date, procurement prices of live hogs in China's capital, Beijing, have been rising continually, with prices hitting new highs for five consecutive months since 1999. At RMB8.55/kg, Beijing's procurement prices of live hogs in May reached the highest since 1999, which is 30.14% higher than the average price of RMB6.57/kg from 1999 to 2003.
Beijing's average retail price of pork in May was RMB10.79/kg, registering a month-on-month increase of 2.66%. The average price from January to May 2004 was RMB10.87/kg, which is 18.15% higher than the average price of RMB9.20 from 1999 to 2003.
At RMB13.62/kg, Beijing's prices of piglets in May hit new high since 1999, registering a remarkable rise of 59.30% compared to the average price of RMB8.55/kg from 1999 to 2003.
