Beijing's Egg Prices Up But Slaughtered Chicken Prices Down in May

Beijing's average egg price in May was RMB5.04/kg, registering a month-on-month increase of 1.2% and year-on-year rise of 24.75%. The average egg price from January to May 2004 was RMB5.07/kg, up by 26.6% compared to the same period last year.
In May, retail prices of slaughtered chickens in Beijing averaged RMB9.96/kg, showing a month-on-month fall of 0.6% and year-on-year decrease of 6.92%.
Prices of live chicken have risen marginally in May. Beijing's retail prices of live chickens in May averaged RMB7.05/kg, registering a month-on-month increase of 4.91% and year-on-year rise of 1.29%.
In May, corn prices in Beijing averaged RMB1.29/kg, showing a month-on-month increase of 4.03% and year-on-year rise of 18.35%, while those of broiler feed was RMB2.25/kg, registering a month-on-month decrease of 0.88% and year-on-year increase of 2.74% With rising feed prices, the production cost has also been driven up and Chinese broiler farmers' profit margins have dropped compared with last year.
