Vietnam Fisheries Sector Receives Danish Assistance
The director of the Fisheries Ministry's International Cooperation Department Vu Van Trieu said the Danish assistance remarkably contributed to Viet Nam's seafood production and exports. The country's seafood export turnover increased to 2.3 billion USD in 2003 from 1.8 billion USD in 2000.
Danish assistance helped conduct projects on aquaculture, improving quality of seafood, raising capacity of fisheries administrative management and assisting enterprises.
Denmark has selected the Vietnamese fisheries sector as one of three prioritised fields for its development assistance since 1994. The Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) provided 600,000 USD from 1995-1997, helping the Fisheries Ministry build a master plan on the sector development until 2010.
