Pakistani poultry prices drop due to CCP raids

Prices of chicken and eggs have plummeted after the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) conducted raids at the Pakistan Poultry Association in Karachi, Lahore and head office in Islamabad.

A senior official of the CCP said on Saturday that the commission has aggressively started actions against the cartels and companies involved in collusive behaviour following re-promulgation of the CO 2009. The CCP has also completed studies on different sectors, which would be shared in the next meeting of the CCP consultative group in Karachi. In the months of May-June 2010, the commission has not only issued policy notes but also taken several legal actions against the cartels.

Recently, the CCP officials conducted inspections of the poultry associations at Karachi and Lahore and recovered valuable record and minutes of meetings and other data. Beside other factors responsible for price control of poultry products, it has been observed that the poultry prices have come down due to recent raids conducted by the CCP.
