Russian yoghurt market growing

The Russian dairy industry was expected to benefit from the lucrative premium-range market, analysts say.

Premium-class yoghurt sales volume increased by more than 10 percent in 2004, and experts evaluate the monthly volume of this market to be 600 tonnes.

Industry feedback state that the Russian market for premium dairy products is unsaturated, making up less than one percent of the total dairy market turnover. The children's dairy food market is also undeveloped and great potential is also expected in this area.

Industry experts estimate that the Russian yoghurt market is growing by 15-20 percent annually. In Ukraine, the growth is projected at 25-30 percent each year.
