Russia reports FMD outbreak in Karachayevo-Cherkesskaya Respublika
The Russian veterinary authorities have reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Karachayevo-Cherkesskaya Respublika.
The affected population consists of cattle. The outbreak was initially observed on June 3 and confirmed on June 8 after a nested RT-PCR test was conducted at the FGBI "Federal Centre for Animal Health", the OIE's reference laboratory.
A total of 600 animals were found susceptible, out of which 90 cases were reported. No deaths were recorded and no animals were destroyed.
The source of the FMD outbreak remains inconclusive.
