China's major wheat areas unharmed by wheat diseases

Majority of the wheat growing land in China is not affected by the white ear disease and the overall quality of the crop is at an average level, the Futures Daily reported on Tuesday (June 12).

The disease mainly hit northern regions of Anhui Province, but nearly had no impact on wheat crops in Shandong and Henan provinces, the report noted.

The report quoted industry insiders as saying that wheat output remains uncertain as reaping has not finished.

By June 10, China has completed more than 60% of wheat crops harvesting.

Wheat diseases have aroused market worries over winter wheat production this year. The most actively traded January strong gluten wheat contract on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange has cumulatively jumped over 4% since it touched this year's low point of RMB2,437/tonne (US$382) on May 25.
