ADM Milling holds open house at Kansas technical centre

ADM Milling Co. showcased its new milling technical centre before more than 120 guests at an open house on Tuesday (June 10).

The centre replaces a laboratory in Olathe, Kansas which has existed for about 20 years.

The new laboratory, which occupies 5,300 square feet, is located within the same building as the milling division's corporate headquarters.

Mark Kolkhorst, president of ADM Milling, said that the need for a new laboratory has been planned since late 2007.

ADM said the centre, which serves as the milling division's central laboratory as well, gives customers assistance with new product development and product reformulation while helping them identify market trends.

The facility will also raise customer awareness about the entire range of ADM ingredients, which includes mixes, glutens and starches.

It has three sections - a milling laboratory, a physical dough testing room and an applications laboratory.

The milling laboratory contains a sample room and equipment to temper and mill wheat and chlorinate flour. The lab includes a 500-kernel analyzer and NIR equipment.

The lab includes several state-of-the-art instruments, including a texture analyzer, a rapid nitrogen (protein) combustion instrument and an atomic absorption analyzer.
