Queensland seafood industry requires government help, Australian MP
Queensland's seafood industry needs more government support, according to Sunshine Coast MP Peter Wellington.
Queensland's seafood industry is battered by rising fuel prices and cheap seafood imports and the government must help out, Wellington said.
Wellington cited the AU$4 million assistance the minister for tourism had invested to support the Queensland tourism industry as an example to follow.
However, State Minister Tim Mulherin said the Commonwealth is already offering subsidies on diesel fuel to trawler operators and that the state government would not be adding to that.
