Ukraine's exports 97% grain through sea transport

 

 

From July - December, the peak of loading capacities of the ports in Ukraine, the sea transport has shipped 97% of grain exports, announced Alexander Smirnov, General Director of the company "Portinvest".

 

According to him, in 2011/12 MY Ukraine managed to export 67% of corn volumes, 22% of wheat, 11% of barley.

 

Also, A. Smirnov said that in 2011 the ports were loaded at the level of 50% only, which is lower compared to similar indices of the Russian ports of the Southern Basin, where the rate totalled 84%.

 

The real possibility of the port facilities for grain exports in Ukraine totals 36 million tonnes, but the ports need to have 30% of reserve capacities. According to the expert, the capacities have to be increased by 10-12 million tonnes. At the same time, in order to increase the exports, it is necessary to launch new technologies for grain shipment.
