China's soy imports rises 40 percent from March to May

China's soy imports for May stood at 2.97 million tonnes according to Reuters calculations.

If so, this would mean that China's soy imports would have risen 40 percent from March's 2.1 million tonnes. China's soy import for April was 2.65 million tonnes.

China's soy import for the first five months of the year was 11.34 million tonnes, up 9.2 percent from a year earlier, according to customs figures.

Chinese crushers have increased imports as rising soyoil prices have improved their crushing margins despite weak soymeal prices hurt by widespread pig disease.

China is the world's top importer of soy.
