Chile salmon exports up more than 50% for April
Chile's salmon exports are over 34,000 tonnes for April, a 54.5% rise over the same month in 2011, when 22,000 tonnes were shipped abroad.
Last April sales abroad generated US$232 million, that is to say, 17.1% more than in the fourth month of 2011, when the currency reached US$198 million, according to a report issued by InfoTrade for Aqua.
The company obtaining the highest sales in April was Multiexport, with returns of US$19.8 million and a volume of 2,457 tonnes.
In second place was Empresas AquaChile, which include AquaChile, Salmones Chiloé, Salmones MaullÃn and Aguas Claras, with US$19.2 million and 3,084 tonnes exported.
And in third place was Marine Harvest Chile, which raised US$14.3 million for 2,293 tonnes of salmon sent abroad.
According to the latest report published by InfoTrade, the average price showed a significant decrease between April 2011 and the same month in 2012, changing from US$8.30 per kilogrammes to US$6.70.
In the first fourth months of 2012, a total of 188,000 tonnes of salmon was exported for US$1.214 million.
The ranking of exporting companies was led by Empresas AquaChile, which together exported 22,000 tonnes worth US$132 million.
In second place was the firm Mainstream, with US$102 million and 17,000 tonnes, followed by Multiexport, with returns of US$74 million and 8,000 tonnes.
