West Australian growers reap rapeseed rewards
The independent grain marketing group, Market Ag, said a surge in rapeseed prices provides a good opportunity for West Australian rapeseed growers.
Over the last two months, the price of rapeseed has risen from AUD440 (US$371.9) to AUD480 (US$405.8) a tonne.
The group's Director Richard Vincent said some growers may wish to forward sell their rapeseed but would be taking a risk at this time of year.
"You just don't know whether you're going to be 0.5 of a tonne or 1.5 of a tonne per hectare so production risk is foremost in my mind," he said.
"The medium to high rainfall growers are the ones who are probably more inclined to look at a forward sale,'' he added.
