China Scient milk not from imported sources as claimed
Scient milk formula did not use imported milk to produce its products as the company claims on its website.
The milk source of Scient milk products was Yashili's dairy farm in Shanxi, a person-in-charge from Yashili, Yang Wanzhou told a CBN reporter.
Meanwhile, the Dairy Association of China confirmed that Scient products were manufactured with raw milk from dairy farms in Shanxi and Heilongjiang provinces.
Scient (Guangdong) Infant Nurture Co., Ltd. was set up in 2002 and co-owned by Guangdong Yashili Group Co., Ltd, US Scient International Pte. Ltd. and Scient Nutrition Products International (Singapore).
According to CBN, the legal representative of Scient (Guangdong) Infant Nurture Co is Zhang Lidian while Yashili's legal representative is Zhang Litong, both of which are brothers, and US Scient International is in fact a company registered by Yashili in the US.
Scient milk formula was reported to contain 132.9mg/kg of melamine, more than 130 times over the approved amount of 1mg/kg.
However, the company stressed that the milk products tested were produced before September 2008, which have been recalled for disposal.
The company claims on its website that all its products are carefully produced according to the relevant Chinese standards and with reference to the nutrition standards of the World Health Organization, the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization and American Academy of Pediatrics.
