Egypt to keep buying Russian grain

Egypt will continue buying Russian grain despite a recent contamination scare, RIA Novosti reports Wednesday (June 10) citing Egypt's ambassador to Moscow.

"There were problems with one small batch, but Russia remains Egypt's main grain supplier," Ezzat Saad ElSayed said at a news conference in Moscow.

He said Russian and Egyptian officials have agreed to sign a long-term agreement on Russian grain supplies. So far this year Egypt has bought about 1.5 million tonnes of Russian grain, the report says.

Russia meets about 50 percent of Egypt's annual grain purchases of 8.2 million tonnes.
