Peterson Farms to sell broiler operations

Peterson Farms has begun negotiations to sell its broiler operations to Simmons Foods.

Peterson Farms had cited rising poultry business costs as the reason for the sale.

The sale will include the broiler operation, egg hatcheries, corporate offices, a feed mill, a poultry processing facility, as well as a large number of contractor relationships with local farms.

Negotiations are underway and could be finalised in July, according to the company.

The acquisition could propel Simmons into the top ten largest US chicken processors.
