China's pork exports plunge by 55 percent
From January to April 2008, China exported 240,000 tonnes of fresh pork and frozen pork, worth USD79.79 million, plunging by 54.4 percent in volume and 14.1 percent in value on-year.
The General Administration of Customs reported on June 5 that China's pork export in April was only 5,416 tonnes, plummeting by 61.3 percent on-year and 24.5 percent from the previous month.
However, the average pork export prices rose by 96.4 percent on-year to US$3,396 a tonne in April.
China mainly exported pork to Hong Kong, which captured 79.2 percent of the total pork exports.
The three major pork export provinces Sichuan, Hunan and Guangdong exported 6,619 tonnes, 5,994 tonnes and 4,213 tonnes respectively, falling 59.3 percent, 37.7 percent and 22.6 percent on-year.
