Argentina's soy output forecast raised to 47.1 million tonnes
The Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange upped its forecast for 2006/07 soy production to 47.1 million tonnes Friday (Jun 8).
The new forecast is 400,000 tonnes higher than the previous estimate.
High yields in the late harvest boosted output, according to the exchange.
As of June 8, farmers have harvested 98.3 percent of the soy crop, the exchange said in its weekly crop report Friday.
The US Department of Agriculture sees Argentina producing 45.5 million tonnes of soybeans this year while the Agricultural Secretariat estimates production of 45.2 million tonnes.
Wheat
Argentina's farmers surged ahead with 2007/08 wheat planting this week, rushing to get seeds in the ground ahead of forecasts for continued dry weather, according to the exchange.
Farmers had been holding off for rain, but with no showers expected in the near future, they chose to plant before soil moisture levels dropped further, the exchange said.
Growers have planted 23.5 percent of the 5.4 million hectares forecast for wheat in the 2007/08 season, 4.6 points ahead of the pace at this time last year, according to the exchange.
Corn
Farmers have harvested 82.4 percent of this year's corn crop, 5.3 points behind last year's pace.
Yields from the 2006/07 crop are expected to total 8 tonnes per hectare, with total production of 22.5 million tonnes, according to the exchange.
The Secretariat and the USDA forecast 22 million tonnes of corn coming from this year's crop.
