Argentina to harvest record 45.2 million tonnes soy in 2006/07

Argentina is expected to harvest a record 45.2 million tonnes of soybeans in the 2006/07 crop year, according to the government's latest forecast.

An official statement indicated that some of the remaining crop yet to be harvested were badly hit by rot and hence had poor grain quality and low yields, due to wet ground conditions in some areas.

Domestic farmers have almost completed the 2006/07 soybean harvest, with few crops still to be harvested in Cordoba province, Argentina's top soy-producing region.

According to the USDA, Argentina's 2006/07 soy production is estimated at 45.5 million tonnes, up five million tonnes from 2005/06.
