Thai shrimp exports lose competitiveness
Â
Â
Somchai Vejjapoklang, Head of Uttaradit Provincial Internal Trade Office, pointed out that shrimp farmers were suffering from a fierce export price competition with the US due to its dumping policy.
Â
He also cited the Thai baht appreciation as another negative factor to the Thai shrimp export.
Â
In response to the problem, the general public has been urged to consume more shrimps in order to relieve the hardship of Thai shrimp farmers.
Â
Somchai had sought to increase domestic shrimp consumption by asking restaurants and related businesses in Thailand to use more shrimps in their cooking as part of the effort to assist shrimp farmers.
