Foster Farms buying two of ConAgra brands

Foster Farms has reached an agreement to buy the Fernando's and El Extremo foodservice brands from ConAgra Foods.

The Fernando's brand is one of the original frozen foodservice Mexican brands offering a full line of authentic Mexican entrées and appetisers ready to heat and serve. Fernando's products include hand-rolled burritos, taquitos, mini-tacos, enchiladas and more.

El Extremo is another foodservice, frozen Mexican brand serving the school-lunch programme distribution channel.

"This acquisition is a strategic fit for Foster Farms and will give us capabilities to expand our current businesses in the foodservice, retail and C-Store Channels," said Ron Foster, Foster Farms' president and chief executive officer.

A processing plant in Compton, California, which is used exclusively to produce hand-held Mexican products under the Fernando's and El Extremo labels, is included in the sale and will remain operational, Foster Farms said.
