Taiwan's pork prices to stay within reasonable range

Pork prices in Taiwan, although expected to go up during the Dragon Boat Festival, will still stay within a reasonable range, the country's Council of Agriculture (COA) said.

Currently, the cost of raising hogs in Taiwan has reached TWD6,500 per 100 kilogrammes.

The market price of hogs stood at TWD7,594 per 100 kg on Saturday (June 7, 2008), the day of the traditional Dragon Boat Festival.

The auction price for pork averaged between TWD75 and TWD90 at local markets, although it hit a new record of TWD100 per kg for the first time at the Hsinchu market in northern Taiwan.

Some pork dealers said that the TWD100 per kg could discourage consumers from buying.
