Kazakhstan To Supply Grain & Meat To Moscow
Kazakhstan would deliver 340,000 tons of grain and 10,000 tons of meat to Moscow this year. Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said this after meeting Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in Astana on Wednesday
Luzhkov recalled that Kazakhstan had supplied 340,000 tons of durum to Moscow last year. "That created conditions for preventing a radical increase in bread prices in Moscow. They were much more moderate than average Russian prices," he stressed.
The Moscow government intends to import the same amount of grain and also meat from Kazakhstan. Russia is increasing its own meat production. Moreover, it buys meat from the European Union. However, Kazakhstan produces top-quality marbled meat. "This meat meets the Muscovites' high requirements, it is in great demand and we, therefore, support the intention of our business circles to buy these agricultural products from Kazakhstan," the Moscow mayor emphasized.
