US Virginia's poultry farmers to examine proposed federal rules changes
Poultry producers in Virginia and West Virginia plan to gather in Timberville to discuss proposed changes to federal rules governing contracts between farmers and companies.
Local news reports that the Contract Poultry Growers Association will meet Thursday (Jun 9) evening at the Plains District Community Center.
Proposed changes include setting a pay scale for poultry growers and making it easier for farmers to sue poultry companies over contract violations.
Supporters say the revisions will level the playing field between contract growers and poultry companies. Companies say they abide by the contracts and pay growers a fair price.
