Indonesia calls for Australian cattle ban lift in some abattoirs
The Indonesian Meat Producers and Feedlotters Association wants the bans on cattle exports from Australia to be immediately removed on abattoirs which have approved facilities.
The ban comes just before Ramadan, where demand for meat in Indonesia increases fourfold.
Association president John Liano has asked the Federal Government to immediately lift bans on at least 11 of the abattoirs which have stun guns, and consider keeping another 59 open.
"All of our members, in my association, have a commitment to control where the Australian cattle are going to go; also, where they are slaughtered. We insist all the workers to slaughter at abattoirs where we have identified animal welfare standards," he said.
