Vietnam calls on to curb shrimp substance injection

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Vietnam seeks cooperation from the Ministry of Police in curbing prohibited substance injections into raw shrimp.

The injection has recently spread in the Mekong Delta provinces of Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang and Kien Giang, damaging local processing plants which are struggling for clean materials for processing, the ministry said.

Earlier, the ministry issued a circular that requests authorities in cities and provinces nationwide to enhance checks on the injection to minimise residues in raw shrimp.

The ministry's Vietnam National Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Department (NAFIQAD) has recently fined three facilities for trading substance-injected shrimp: Tac Van Fisheries Processing JSC in Ca Mau city, Phuong Nam Co. Ltd in Soc Trang township and Hoang Phuong Fisheries Processing Plant in My Xuyen district, Soc Trang province.
