Indonesia may double imports of corn grains

Indonesia's import of corn for the animal feed industry is predicted to more than double this year from 400,000 tonnes last year.

Indonesia has just reduced corn imports to 400,000 tonnes from 1 million tonnes in the previous year.

Domestic production is estimated to decline 13 per cent in the first half of this year to only 7 million tonnes compared with the same period last year due to bad weather, animal feed producers said.

Chairman of the association of animal feed producers (GPMTI) Budiarto Soebijanto said the country's production of feed corn is predicted to fall short of the country's requirement of 12.16 million tonnes this year.
