Britain uses royal persuasion to lift Thai beef ban

Britain's beef industry is enlisting royal help in its bid to get Thailand to lift its ban on British beef.

Britain's Duke of York, Prince Andrew held discussions with Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Somkid Jatusripitak Thursday (Jun 8) regarding Thailand's import ban on British beef.

Thailand lifted its ban on Canadian beef a few days ago but still has a ban on British beef in place.

Thailand on the other hand, hopes for British investment in infrastructure development projects in the country. Thailand also hopes the British supermarket chain Tesco would market Thai food products in its international outlets.

Trade for the first four months of this year between the two countries was worth US$1.415 billion.

Britain's Duke of York is in Thailand for the celebrations of the 60-year reign of the King of Thailand.
