Brazilian pork exports soar in January-May

 

 

Brazil's pork exports soared of 81.1 percent from January to May this year, to hit US$444 million in comparison to the same period in 2004.

 

According to the Brazilian Pork Packaging and Export Association (Abipecs), export volume in this period grew 27.9 percent year-on-year from 180,000 tonnes to just over 230,000 tonnes.

 

May 2005 export revenue grew by almost 46 percent over a year ago to US$101 million, with a rise of 4.7 percent in volume exported.

 

Russia remains the largest buyer of Brazilian pork exports, importing 138,000 tonnes from January to May this year, a 25 percent increase from the same period in 2004. Brazilian revenue from Russia surged 86 percent to US$280 million.
