French Glon Group invests in Malaysian chicken farms
Glon Group, a French company, will be investing in the sector of chicken farming in Malaysia, a Malaysian official said on Tuesday (June 8).
The initial investment amounted to MYR60 million (US$18.4 million), Malaysian International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed told a press conference here after meeting his French counterpart Anne-Marie Idrac.
Besides producing chickens in the east coast of Peninsula Malaysia for exports to the Middle East and European Union, Mustapa said that the company would also produce feedstock for the production of chicken feeds.
Meanwhile, French State Minister for Foreign Trade Anne-Marie Idrac said that there were 250 French companies in Malaysia.
While hoping that the trade collaboration between Malaysia and France could be deepened, the minister said that France was interested in the sectors of renewable energy and halal industry.
According to the press release issued by the ministry, France is the fourth largest trading partner within the European Union countries accounting for 11.3% of Malaysia's total trade with the group amounting to US$31.4 billion last year.
As of 2009, French companies invested a total of US$500 million in 83 manufacturing projects in Malaysia, creating over 9,000 jobs in the country.
