Australian April beef output down 0.5 percent on-month
Beef output in Australia, the second-biggest global exporter after Brazil, fell 0.5 percent on-month in April to a seasonally adjusted 176,917 tonnes, the government's Bureau of Statistics reported Friday (June 5).
The total number of cattle slaughtered in April, excluding calves, stood at 654,272 beasts, down 0.7 percent on-month.
The bureau doesn't explain movements in the figures.
Australia exports two-thirds of its beef production to major markets such as Japan, the US, South Korea and Southeast Asian nations. The level of exports is closely tied to production.
