India to import 5 million tonnes wheat
India will import 5 million tonnes of wheat between August and December, 2007, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said Thursday (Jun 8).
"We have enough stocks to meet local demand, but will still import wheat to meet any crisis and build inventories for future," Pawar told reporters on the sidelines of a conference on agriculture.
The minister said talks are on with the US over quality norms to import wheat.
"We want the US to participate in our wheat import tender," he said.
