Peru poultry exports up 68 percent on-year

Peru's poultry exports totalled US$721,146 for January to April 2007, up 68 percent on-year, Peruvian exporters association Adex said on June 6, 2007.

The value of frozen poultry, which accounted for about 40 percent of the exports, nearly doubled to US$294,724.

About 60 percent of exports were value-added products.

Peru exports its poultry to 11 countries, with Ecuador being the main destination, accounting for about a third of the exports. Columbia, Bolivia and Venezuela were the next largest destinations.

Most of Peru's exports come from just two exporters: Avinka, accounting for 41.3 percent of the total and San Fernando with 40.8 percent. The other exporters included Texfibra, Reina del Pacifico and Atalaya Export.
