Australia's beef output down 1.5 percent in April
Beef production in Australia, a major global exporter, fell 1.5 percent in April to a seasonally-adjusted 185,123 tonnes from 188,032 tonnes in March but was up 5.9 percent on year, the government's Bureau of Statistics reported Wednesday (Jun 6).
The total number of cattle slaughtered, excluding calves, in April fell 1.7 percent on month to 685,900 beasts but was up 4.1 percent on year, it reported.
Australia exports about two-thirds of its beef production, with about 90 percent destined for Japan, the US and South Korea and with the overall level of exports closely tied to production.
