Canada steps up slaughtering in reaction to US ban on beef

Canada is increasing its slaughtering capacity in reaction to the US ban on importing Canadian beef, according to Canadian trade officials. This is to sustain the cattle industry until the desired capacity is achieved and expand access to other export markets for both livestock and beef products.

Reports state that increased slaughtering capacity, from 75,000 animals to 90,000 animals a week, will likely occur by year's end whether or not Canadian-US beef trade is resumed.
