Sigma Alimentos buys Comnor to strengthen product portfolio

Sigma Alimentos, Mexico-based refrigerated and frozen food producer, has acquired Comercial Norteamericana, S.A. de C. V. (COMNOR), a value-added meat processor and distributor for the local foodservice industry.

COMNOR produces beef, poultry, and pork products, along with its well-known Certified Angus Beef brand.

Sigma Alimentos said that this acquisition would help to strengthen its product portfolio, along with its role in foodservice. Terms were not disclosed.

COMNOR is based in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon state, where it operates a USDA-certified beef processing plant.

The company has an additional processing plant in the Mexican city of Hermosillo, along with distribution centres in Mexico City, Cancún, Hermosillo, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta and León.

The company has 370 employees and, in 2012, it had US$122 million in sales.
