Alcotexa's cotton exports drop on-year

 

 

From the current season that started on September 2011 up to June 2, 2012, cotton exports done by members of Alexandria Cotton Exporters' Association (Alcotexa) have dropped compared with the last season.

 

Alcotexa's cotton exports until June 2 this season stood at 75,271 tonnes, as against exports of 110,539 tonnes made during the corresponding period of previous season, showing a decline of nearly 32% on-year.

 

Value-wise, Alcotexa's cotton exports during the period under review were worth US$236.9 million, compared to exports worth US$455.1 million made during the same period in previous season, registering a dip of almost 48% on-year.

 

During the week ended June 2, 2012, Alcotexa sold 687 tonnes of cotton, which included 576 tonnes of Giza 86 grade cotton and 111 tonnes of Giza 88 cotton.

 

Known for its supreme quality, Egyptian cotton is used for the production of a wide range of value added products including bedding and pillow cases.
