Belarus extends 45 percent import duty on poultry

Belarus has extended the 45 percent import duty on poultry and byproducts for nine months.

The duty, which must exceed EUR 0.45 per kg, would be applied on fresh, chilled and frozen poultry meat and byproducts.

This move extends the duty introduced in February 2006 and would protect domestic producers, especially those under Belptitseprom, which accounts for 87 percent of Belarus' poultry meat production.

The import duty is also expected to create favourable conditions for further investment into the modernisation of the poultry industry.

The ruling would be effective from the day it is officially published.
