Scotland's salmon sector sees a revival
The Scottish salmon industry is having renewed confidence as investment returns to the sector, according to Sid Patten, Chief Executive of Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation.
In a speech to business leaders, Patten noted that substantial had come into the sector in the past six months.
Globally, salmon farming is making a significant contribution towards meeting the growing worldwide demand for seafood, as nearly half of all fish supplies now come from farmed sources, he added.
However, he also noted that despite the increasing worldwide demand and the recent investments, the industry is losing global market share as salmon production operations in other countries are expanding at a much quicker pace.
Paten said he is hopeful that current laws would be streamlined to help the industry and help it realise its full potential.
