Malaysia conducts trial on AH1N1 flu vaccine
A trial on a vaccine against the AH1N1 flu virus will be conducted to less than 10,000 pigs in Perak, Malaysia, from next week, said Veterinary Services Department director-general Datuk Dr Abd Aziz Jamaluddin.
According to media reports, Jamaluddin said the test would cost MYR1 million and it would take six weeks for the results to show whether the vaccine was effective in preventing pigs from contracting the virus.
He said on Thursday (June 4) that if it is proven effective, the vaccination of all 1.7 million pigs nationwide would be proposed to the government.
He said vaccination for all pigs in the country would cost MYR30million a year.
