Thai, Vietnam delegates seek industry ventures in Philippine region

Delegates from Thailand and Vietnam have expressed interests to put capital in different undertakings in the Davao Region, south Mindanao.

Lucky Seigfred Balleque, chief of the National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (NERBAC) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Philippines, said the Thai company is engaged in poultry production while the Vietnamese delegation are interested in seafood, mining, and coconut industries.

Balleque identified the Thai company as Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF) - Thailand's largest poultry processor - and said that the company is eyeing Davao del Sur as their next area for expansion.

DTI official said Davao del Sur has been chosen as the ideal spot due to the presence of a source of water and its proximity to a potential port area.

On the other hand, Balleque said Vietnamese officials who visited Davao Region last May 20 to 23 expressed interest in the region's seafood, mining, and coconut industries.

He said the Vietnamese officials vowed to get on in another trade mission in the region, adding that they are also eyeing the tuna industry.
