China's meat industry grew 38 percent last year
China's meat industry is growing steadily, with more investment, larger demand and higher profits, said Deng Fujiang, deputy chairman of China Meat Association, on Friday (Jun 3).
The number of meat processing companies increased 12 percent to 2,544 in 2005 with total sales of RMB 228.97 billion yuan (US$28 billion), up 38 percent from the previous year.
A seminar in Beijing to discuss China's meat development and promotion strategies would be held in July.
More than 500 companies from 30 nations and regions have registered for the seminar organised by the China Meat Association and the World Meat Organisation.
