India receives approval to export poultry to Japan
Japan has allowed India to export poultry meat to the country, saying that Indian standards for poultry meat and other products conform to Japanese standards, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor & Welfare said.
Hailing the announcement, Indian Minister of Commerce & Industry said it was something that the Indian government had been hoping for the whole of last year, adding that India's poultry industry is all set to take advantage of the growth opportunities it presents.
A recent market research report published by Research and Consultancy Outsourcing Services puts Indian poultry meat exports at around Rs.50 Crores (US$ 10.9 million) annually and it is expected to reach Rs.500 Crores (US$109 million) during the next 4 to 5 years.
Poultry products are exported to countries such as Japan and Europe. India has also exported egg powder, frozen egg yolk & albumin powder to Japan.
